Job Summary

The Interim Associate Director of Career Planning for Consulting & Finance will advise students and create programming to serve the needs of students exploring and pursuing careers in consulting and finance fields. The position will build and maintain relationships with alumni and parents available for networking with students, who also often assist in the creation of job and internship opportunities. The position will also support, as needed, general career educational programming and advising. This is a 10-month interim position to provide support for the 2018-2019 academic year.

The main responsibilities are to:

Provide individual student advising support (both in person and via email) and develop career programs and services to aid students in exploring and pursuing internships and full-time employment in the consulting and financial services fields. Provide support for students and alumni exploring and pursuing Master of Business Administration degrees and other business-related graduate programs.
Build and maintain relationships with alumni, parents, and other College supporters who work in consulting and finance fields to grow student access to connections for networking, internships and job opportunities. Develop and update consulting and finance content for weekly newsletters and related Career Planning website areas to connect students with up-to-date resources and guidance accessible outside of advising.
Oversee student outreach and education programs for finance and consulting fields including skill-building workshops and alumni and parent speakers. Serve as adviser to, and collaborator with, student pre-professional clubs including most notably The Bowdoin College Finance Society and The Bowdoin College Consulting Club.
Provide general career guidance to students, as member of wider career planning team, to encourage early engagement, review application materials and processes and train on use of Bowdoin career resources. Collaborate with Career Planning team, faculty and other staff to produce and deliver non sector-specific career development programming for general student body and communities of affiliation.

Education/Skills Requirements

Master’s degree preferred, bachelor’s degree required, with seven or more years of work experience in either consulting or financial services field. Experience working with college students or recent graduates is a plus.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Proven program planning and execution skills; excellent writing, public speaking, networking and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to build rapport with students, communicate effectively with a wide range of campus constituencies, and leverage relationships with alumni, parents, faculty, and staff; exceptional organizational skills and career counseling skills; a solid grounding in information technology and the capacity to capitalize on the use of technology in career planning; and vision, creativity, imagination and a great sense of humor.

Standard Work Days and Hours

Generally, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm while students are on campus with some night and weekend hours especially during peak periods of semester (September-October and January-February). This is an appointment running from mid-July (on a reduced schedule for first month) through mid-May with scheduled weeks off during academic breaks.
