Position Summary

Bowdoin College Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a one-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in cultural anthropology to begin July 1, 2018. Teaching load is two courses per semester including, “Introduction to Cultural Anthropology” and three courses at the introductory- or intermediate-level in the candidate’s areas of expertise. Topical and geographic specializations are open, but candidates whose teaching and research specialties include medical anthropology, science and technology, race/ethnicity, Africa, Asia, or the Middle East are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will demonstrate a capacity for excellence in teaching, active engagement in research, and a commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education; previous undergraduate teaching experience preferred. Ph.D. expected at the time of appointment.
